SIMULATE RESTORE KEY WITH POKES

THIS IS A LONG SHOT, SINCE I SEE THAT
THIS BBS ISN'T BIG ON COMMODORE AND
MY QUESTION IS A TOUGHIE:
HOW DO YOU SIMULATE PRESSING THE
RESTORE KEY BY USING POKES? YOU
CAN'T USE THE KEYBOARD BUFFER SINCE
THERE'S NO ASCII CODE FOR THE RESTORE
KEY. AND HOW ABOUT A RUN-STOP/RESTORE
SEQUENCE? IT SHOULD BE EASY ONCE YOU
FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO THE RESTORE.
ANYWAY, IF YOU HAVE ANY INFO, PLEAS
RESPOND.
               K.M.

POSSIBLE ANSWER RE RESTORE

THOUGH I AM NOT AN EXPERT AND HAVE NOT TRIED THE FOLLOWING, I SUGGEST
THAT YOU ATTEMPT TO USE A SYS STATEMENT. YOU DO NOT MENTION THE
REASON FOR YOUR QUEST. IS IT THAT YOU REALLY WANT TO USE POKES OR IS
IT THAT YOU JUST WANT TO ACHIEVE THE RESULT WITHOUT PRESSING THE KEYS, THAT
IS, WITHIN A PROGRAM. IF IT IS THE LATTER, RESTORE SENDS A NMI (NON-
MASKABLE INTERUPT).ROM ADDRESS IS 43037. THE RUN?STOP FOLLOWED BY
RESTORE SEQUENCE PERFORMS A WARM START TO THE BASIC PROGRAM. THE KERNAL
ADDRESS FOR THE WARM START IS 58235. BOTH OF THE ABOVE A ROM ADDRESSES.
PERHAPS THE BETTER LOCATIONS ARE FOR RESTORE - 65091 WHICH IS THE NMI INTER-
UPT ENTRY POINT AND 65126 WHICH IS THE BRK-WARM START ROUTINE.
IN ADDITION, IT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE TO USE USR COMMANDS.
NONE OF THE ABOVE HAVE BEEN TESTED--TAKE CAUTION >I AM MOT AN
EXPERT<. THIS IS BASED UPON AN
EXAMINATION OF 64 MEMORY MAP LOCATIONS. LET ME KNOW IF ANY OF THIS
IS OF USE.

KIM, KIM, KIM!!!!

YOUR FIRST MESSAGE ON THE A-TREE... HOW NICE. (SOB, SOB) AND I REMEMBER
YOU WHEN YOU WERE WORKING AT YOU KNOW WHERE.... OH WELL...

ANYWAY, I CAN ONLY LOOK AT THIS FROM THE 6502'S POINT OF VIEW... ON THE APPLE,
THE RESET KEY IS A SWITCH, THAT GOES RIGHT TO THE PROCESSOR (AN INTERUPT
REQUEST) THAT FORCES IT TO GO TO THE RESET CYCLE... I'M SURE IT'S SOMEWHAT
SIMMILAR ON THE 'OL 64... IF YOU COULD FIND OUT WHERE THE RESTORE CYCLE
STARTS, YOU COULD JUST CALL THAT LOCATION...

SEE YOU TOMORROW (GEOM AT 8:30!)
GREG.

Some information from the subsysop.

Here's some information which might help you out.
Try the following they've all been tested so just find the one you
think you need.

sys 42590 - perform a CLR
sys 44808 - print a syntax error msg.
sys 58235 - warm start of basic
sys 58260 - Initialize/Cold Start
Note on this one. Any program residing at c000 or greater is
not cleared.
This just resets ALL of the pointers.
sys 58692 - clear screen
sys 58726 - home cursor
sys 59749 - open a screen line ( scrool down)

Here's some interesting pokes for the C-64.
poke 204,0 - turns on a cursor for use with a get routine.
poke 206,x - sets the character under the cursor
poke 650,100 - disable repeat of all keys.
650,255 - enable repeat of all keys.
     650,0 - return to normal

try this-
WAIT 653,1,0 - wait until shift key is pressed
WAIT 653,2,0 - wait for commodore key
WAIT 653,4,0 - wait for CTRL

poke 788,52 - shuts off the run/stop key but it also stops the clock (ti/ti$).
poke 788,49 - returns to normal.
poke 808,239 - disable run/stop WITHOUT disableing ti$ or ti
poke 808,237 - enable the run/stop key.
poke 808,225 - disables the runstop and restore keys
REMEMBER!!!! Your program must end with poke 808,237 or you will
not be able to stop it!!!

Well thats it for now.
