Introduction

I learned to program in the late 1970s and early 1980s, beginning when I was in the 6th grade. We had two Commodore PET microcomputers, as well as accounts on a remote timesharing service that we accessed via a Teletype terminal. In 1982 I got a Commodore 64 and a 300 baud modem and began calling BBSes in NYC.

Being both a stickler for details and a pack rat I wrote lots of notes and saved most of them. The following five-inch stack of papers is what remains of my programming experiences from high school through college:

The bottom 1.5 (or so) inches in the stack consists of Teletype printouts. The second 1.5 inches consists of notes I made while designing programs, debugging and hacking. The top two inches consist of miscellaneous printouts: graphics, documentation, school assignments, etc.
